KOLLAM: Students Federation of India (SFI) activists on Friday smashed the windowpanes and damaged the office room of the principal of Vimala Hridaya HSS here protesting the punishment meted out to a seventh standard student by a teacher on Thursday.
According to the East Police, the girl student was beaten up by a teacher for allegedly stealing ` 10 from a classmate's bag. It was also claimed that a Rs 10 note was found from the girl's bag.The parents of the student, whose body bore rashes and bruises of beating, came to the school and complained about the incident.

They claimed that their child was innocent and that some other students might have played a trick to put the blame on the girl.As the issue heated up, KSU workers took out a march to the school. Later, a group of SFI workers came to the school and vandalised the principal's office of the HSS.

The police have registered a case under nonbailable offences against 16 SFI workers following the school authorities' complaint.ENS
