RAYAGADA: The ideetaal painting of the Lanjia Saura Tribe of the district is now finding favour with the connoisseurs of art.Somewhat similar to Warli paintings of Maharashtra, efforts of the district administration have brought along orders from across the country and even from foreign tourists.The ideetaals, containing various symbols and meaning, are generally painted to appease the God. With the passage of time and spread of education and awareness, some youths have tried to incorporate elements of modern painting into this traditional art form. Samanata Gomang, who has a diploma from National Institute of Fashion Technology, has lent a modern touch to the art taking it to the world stage.Collector Nitin Bhanudas Jawale said, “We have plans to support the artists and increase their production capacity without compromising on quality.” The district blog has helped increase the demand.A team from Shantiniketan had visited the Puttasingi area to help the tribe develop their art under a skill development programme. The trainers returned rich with experience. Former Assistant Manager of District Industries Centre, PC Mahakud has played a pivotal role in the promotion of the art and he continues to help the tribals popularise their art form even after his retirement.
