The Sugarcane Growers Association has strongly opposed the government decision to price  sugarcane at Rs 2,200 per tonne.

Association general secretary Athihalli Devaraj in a press release has asked the government to hike the price of sugarcane and also to instruct the factories to clear the due amounts of the last two years.

“Amid skyrocketing prices of pesticides, fertilizers and hike in diesel prices, it has become a challenging task for us to manage the expenditure.

Without any delay, the government should take a decision at the earliest to hike the prices of sugarcane,” he added.

“The government has asked the factories to clear the due amount in one month,” Athihalli Devaraj said and urged, “the government should withdraw its decision immediately for the benefit of the growers and ask the factories to clear the due amount in a week.
