Stolen jewels found abandoned in bus

BANGALORE: Diamond and gold ornaments worth Rs1 crore that were stolen from Aabushan Jewellers on Friday, were found abandoned in a bus in Hospet of Bellary district. However, the police are yet to nab the accused, Sohanlal Kathri.According to the police, the accused after committing the theft on Friday was heading towards Mumbai in a private bus, on the same night. When the bus was moving on NH-4 in the outskirts of the city, the police were checking all the vehicles at a check post. Afraid of future consequences, the accused abandoned the bag with jewels and alighted the bus. On Saturday, he contacted Anilkumar Khathri, his relative who works in the same showroom, and explained that he had abandoned the jewels in a bus and gave him the details about the bus.“Later, Anilkumar informed the matter to the showroom owner Bohra, who passed on the message to the police. Immediately, the police swung into action and tried to track the bus. It was learnt that the bus was in Hospet. A city police team with co-operation of local police traced the bus in its depot. The bag was found in the bus and all the jewels were intact,” the police added.“It was easy for us to trace the bus as the staff of the private travel agency had informed the local police about the abandoned bag with jewels. The bus driver Basavaraju, who drove the bus to its depot after plying passengers between Bangalore to Mumbai, had found the bag in the luggage carrier. After knowing that the bag had jewels, he informed his office and then to the local police. By this, when we contacted Hospet police it was easy to trace the bus. However the driver did not have details about the person who abandoned the bag or where he alighted the bus,” the police explained.Meanwhile, the police have gone to Rajasthan in search of Sohanlal Kathri.
