Married women observe Hartalika Teej Vrat for a happy married life and the longevity of their husbands. This is a tough fast because women do not consume food, water and fruits from sunrise on Vrat’s day till the sunrise on the other day. Apart from this difficult rule, women follow several other rules. On this day, husbands should also take special care of some rules. This year, Hartalika Teej Vrat will be observed on September 6. Kashi-based astrologer Chakrapani Bhatt has described what mistakes the husband should avoid making on the day of Hartalika Teej.
1. A married woman observes the Hartalika Teej Vrat for her husband. This implies that he should also be mindful of not hurting her with his words or behaviour on that day. They are advised to not fight or argue with their wives on that day.
2. Husbands should not consume tamasic food on Hartalika Teej Vrat, that is alcohol, meat, fish, garlic and onion.
3. It is important that the husbands should exercise restraint on themselves during the Hartalika Teej Vrat. There should be purity in mind, actions and words of both partners; the husband should also support the wife in this initiative. They should not do anything that may break their wife’s fast.
4. Women observe the fast for the long lives of their spouses and hence they should also, in turn, treat them nicely. The men should not forget to purchase new clothes, wedding-related materials and jewellery for their wives in the fast. In Hartalika Teej, the wife adorns herself like a newlywed and worships Lord Shiva along with Maa Parvati. Her married life becomes happy with the blessings of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati.
5. The husband should not insult his wife’s family, her maternal side. They should respect their in-laws like their own family. On Hartalika Teej, the woman gets special gifts from her parents’ house. If they are not able to obtain it due to some reason, then people should not mock their wives. Instead, on the contrary, the husbands should make arrangements for that.
