BANGALORE: Henceforth, underworld criminals will no longer be able to continue illegal trades from prisons. As atrocities such as murder and weekly payment collection continue through supari, the government has decided to keep the 120 prisoners in specialised cells.Speaking at the 2011 Bangalore Reporters’ Association, Home Minister R Ashok said communication to the outside world would be stopped, when the goons are put into these cells.  Also, panchasutras or the five principles  including the installation of  mobile jammer to inactivate the working of mobile phones, scanning of goods that are brought in and taken out and setting up of CCTVs  and nets around the premises. A budget of 9 crores has been set aside for this purpose. Officials will pay surprise visits to jails in order to stop illegal activities. “By preventing these inside activities, several outside crimes would automatically decrease”, he observed. Also, `180 crore has been granted to improve the condition of fire stations in the state. Forty new fire stations will be set up in the future. Each taluk would have atleast one fire station, he gave details.  Last year twenty fire stations have been established. This year 628 stations and 185 fire ambulances will be introduced, he added.  The home minister also said that there is a requirement of 3500 officials in the police department.
