The State Government informed the Legislative Council on Wednesday that it would maintain the status quo order passed by the Supreme Court and would not allow construction of any buildings of permanent nature on the sprawling Bangalore Palace premises in the city.
Making a written statement in the Council, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, in response to a calling attention motion of the Congress member R V Venkatesh, assured the members that his government would adhere to the Supreme Court’s directions on the matter.
Chief Minister promises to set things right
Referring to the large scale violations being allegedly taking place on the premises of the Bangalore Palace where several hotels, marriage halls and other exhibition events are functioning leading to chocking of highways connecting the Bangalore International Airport and other arterial roads in and around the Palace, he promised to look into the issue and set right the things.
JD(S) floor leader M C Nanaiah charged that several top officials of the State Government seemed to be hands in gloves with the culprits who are operating from the Bangalore Palace premises.
He also demanded a probe into the alleged violations of the Supreme Court directions when the State Government had declared the Bangalore Palace as the State property and went ahead to acquire the property.
