Stadium site to be a special zone: Oommen Chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced that the site where the international greenfield stadium would  come up would be declared a special zone. This would help to overcome hurdles like labour issues from affecting the construction works of the stadium. He was speaking at the inauguration of the construction of international stadium and sports complex at Kariavattom near here.Chandy said that the issue regarding declaration of special zone would be discussed at the cabinet meeting to be held on Wednesday.The financial expenses needed for constituting a special zone would be shouldered by the government.Sports Minister K B Ganesh Kumar presided over the function. Education Minister PK Abdu Rabb, M A Vahid MLA, District Panchayat president Ramani P Nair, Kerala University Vice-Chancellor A Jayakrishnan and Sports Council president Padmini Thomas were also present.Meanwhile slight tension prevailed at the area when SFI activists tried to march to the inauguration venue with black flags demanding resignation of Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb over his alleged involvement in the land grab case in Calicut University.
