THRISSUR: The night sky was lit up in spectacular hues around the Swaraj Round, near here, on Sunday as the sample fireworks marked the first round of the Thrissur Pooram celebrations. Tens of thousands of people thronged the streets to catch a glimpse of the display which dazzled the night sky.The brilliant burst of colours was widely appreciated by the public. It was the Paramekkavu Devaswom who kick-started the show at around 7 pm, with Vennur Rajan leading the band of pyrotechnicians. Thiruvambadi Devaswom’s show, supervised by Mundathikodu Mani, followed. The ‘waterfalls’ and ‘green serpents’ etched across the night sky was the highlight of the show. Paramekkavu’s ‘Sky Fall’ created a temporary waterfall in the sky which left the beholders dazed by its sheer brilliance. As the display reached its crescendo, clouds of coloured smoke billowed the night sky red, white, green and blue. “I came here to see the ‘Waterfalls’. It was an awesome sight to behold. I heard about these extraordinary fireworks through the media and came to witness it,” said Murali, a pooram fan. Sparkling array of colour and the unusual pastel hues were visible from all over the city. The display was launched from the Thekkinkadu Maidan, and it took around one week for the pyrotechnicians to plan the feat.
