Sikh riots case: BJP attacks Govt, CBI in Rajya Sabha
The ghost of the 1984 Sikh riots keeps haunting the Government.

New Delhi: The ghost of the 1984 Sikh riots keeps haunting the Government. A short while ago there was uproar in the Rajya Sabha over witness Jasbir Singh's appearance on CNN-IBN on Thursday.

Singh, the key witness against former Cabinet Minister and senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the ‘84 riots case told the channel that the CBI never tried to contact him during the investigations.

The CBI had maintained that Singh was ‘untraceable’. Soon after, the country's premier investigating agency, sought assistance from CNN-IBN to trace Jasbir Singh. The BJP is now demanding a fresh inquiry into the case.

''It appears from the reporting of your TV channel that Jasbir Singh is in contact with your TV channel. It is requested that if any telephone number or address of Jasbir Singh is available with you, then it may kindly be provided for the purpose of investigation. Accordingly, the Interpol shall be contacted for the purpose of recording the statement of Jasbir Singh,” the statement from CBI said.

The BJP has demanded that the minister in charge of the CBI make a statement on the floor of the house.

“The Prime Minister said things would be taken care of. The CBI said they cannot trace him. But I have seen he was talking on CNN-IBN, Zee TV, NDTV,” said BJP MP, Ravi Shankar Prasad.
