THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharatheeya Vicharakendram Director P Parameswaran has said that using a portion of the disposable wealth from the treasure of the Lord Sreepadmanabha temple, an International Sree Padmanabha University of Hindu culture headquartered here with centres spread across the globe should be set up to promote Hindu (oriental ) cultural studies. He also wanted the vulnerable sections of the Hindu society to be protected utilising a portion of the treasure. Speaking to Express here on Wednesday, Parameswaran said that the treasure found at the temple belonged to Lord Sree Padmanabha. He said that the wealth amounting to astronomical figures could be divided into three categories with each item having its own relevance and utility. The items used for temple rituals and pooja as thiruvabharanam must be preserved separately.Treasure of historical importance and of antique value and items which cannot be replaced should be treated separately.The items neither used for rituals nor having antique value could be treated separately.While the upkeep of the first category of the treasure may be entrusted with the temple authorities including the thanthri, the second category items with antique value should be preserved on the temple premises and should be open to devotees on special occasions. He said that the temple cannot be a museum and keeping the treasures open on all days would be vulnerable and invite security risk.Parameswaran said that the treasure belonged to the deity, according to legal parlance, an individual. And the Travancore rulers who had been handling the administration of the erstwhile state of Travancore in the name of Lord Sree Padamanabha never ever tried to appropriate the wealth and preserved it with devotion and restraint. Parameswaran said that as the temple belonged to the Hindu society of the country and abroad, the promotion of interest of the Hindu society as a whole should be given the priority after proper consideration by Hindu religious and spiritual leaders. Parameswaran who wanted a body of national character with predominance of Hindu religious and spiritual leaders and leaders from socio-culural sectors at the helm to administer the university.Ruling out any role for politicians, Parameswaran also wanted to keep both the State and Central Governments to keep their hands off as they do not have any role to play in the affairs just like they treat Christian and Muslim worship places. “Only the judiciary may intervene when ever the situation warrants,” he said. Spiritual leaders of proven character such as the seer of Pajavur Mutt and the head of the royal family of Travancore could be at the helm, he says. Hindu society in India, particularly in Kerala, was facing a critical situation with dwindling population and land getting alienated, he said. At this juncture everybody is seeing this as a right opportunity to strengthen Hindu society with the blessings of Lord Padmnabha, he said.
