KOLLAM:The Public Service Commission’s (PSC) experiment of publishing four ranklists from a common test may prove costly for about 7,000 candidates.The PSC had conducted a common test for four posts - Higher Secondary School Teacher (HSST), English, senior and junior, and Vocational Higher Secondary School Teacher (VHSST), English, senior and junior, in 2010 and decided to publish four separate ranklists.Even though the PSC sticking to its usual procedure of preparing a ranklist with candidates two-three times the number of vacancies, fears are that hundreds of posts may not be filled as adequate number of candidates do not feature in the ranklists.“The PSC published the ranklist of HSST English junior (the only one to be published till date) in April featuring 335 candidates (with almost equal number of candidates in the supplementary list) against the total vacancies of 138. According to the information gained through an RTI query, about 346 vacancies had been reported to the PSC under HSST English senior category."In all probability, the same 335 candidates in the HSST English junior category would be there in the HSST English Senior ranklist and they would prefer senior post since it is a gazetted post and the junior list would expire without appointments being made to any vacancies,” said Shameer K, a candidate from Chavara.Shameer said that if the PSC calls for another notification for HSST English junior, hundreds of qualified teacher-aspirants would lose their last chance.Candidates feel that the junior list should have included at least 1,000 candidates, if the method, said to be adopted by the PSC for the first time, was to become successful.Meanwhile, PSC chairman K S Radhakrishnan told Express that the ranklists had been made taking care of the number of the posts reported.
