MYSORE: Following the Pre-University lecturers who have boycotted evaluation of answer papers, high school teachers have threatened to abstain from evaluation of SSLC answer papers if the government fails to fulfil their seven demands.Karnataka State High School Masters’ Association decided to boycott the SSLC valuation scheduled to commence in 210 centres across the state from April 23.Association secretary G C Shankar, who announced the same at a press conference here on Saturday, said that they want to pressure the government to set right the pay anomalies and fulfil demands that have been pending for the past 20 years.“The strike is not aimed at hurting the parents and students, he added.“The high school teachers have been fighting against the pay anomalies and have submitted several memoranda to the Pay Commission. But, all our efforts have not borne fruit, save for a promise from government to pay `200 as additional incentive to teachers,” he said.He said that even the sixth Pay Commission’s recommendation of a pay scale of Rs 17,650 to assistant teachers was meager. The pay scale must be enhanced to Rs 21,600-Rs 40,050. Until the government sets right this injustice, we will not revoke the decision to boycott evaluation,” he threatened.Shankar said the association has already submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri to sensitise them on their demands.
