Kolkata: A sessions court in Kolkata adjourned the Rouvanjit Rawla case on Friday, till January 31. The court concluded the hearing of the petition moved by La Martiniere Principal Sunirmal Chakravarthi and three other teachers of the school, charged with abetment to Rawla's suicide.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, Rouvanjit's father Ajay Rawla said, "Facts speak for themselves. While we have been focusing on corporal punishment, this isn't the only case. I don't know if the new laws will strengthen the case, but they should help the children."

12-year-old Rouvanjit Rawla committed suicide in February last year a few days after he was allegedly caned and humiliated in school.

The school had challenged an earlier court order which directed the Kolkata police to include the non-bailable section of abetment to suicide which was not included in the chargesheet filed.
