BANGALORE: The residents of H B Samaja Road are scared of the fast approaching monsoon season because of the ongoing drainage work that has been taken up by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) but yet to be completed. The project is basically to divert the flow of drainage water from KR Road to be H B Samaja Road which will then be connected to an open drain. In order to do this, BWSSB along with BBMP are digging up the road and laying a new pipeline to control the flow of water. But, the question remains, will the drains be ready before the harsh monsoon season? The H B Samaja Road is known for its historical importance before the pre independence era and is a famous landmark, with the Samaja building situated at the corner of the road. The building was initially considered as a woman’s welfare orgainisation during the British rule. It is said that women from the surrounding areas would meet up at the venue for an evening prayer and to share stories. Hence, it got its name H B Samaja Road which stands for Hari Katha Bajan Samaja. But of late, the residents of Basavanagudi find it hard to lead a peaceful life in this posh area. G L Ram a resident on H B Samaja Road said, “The project started 4 months ago, first they started to dig the road, which caused a lot of traffic issues. At times, it was hard for me to get into my own house. The traffic was stopped on K R Road for almost two months, even though this is considered to be one of the busiest roads. There a breach in effective decision making in the departments and there is no coordination what so ever seen. The road has been blocked half way for over four months now, and filth collected from the drains are still left on the sides. Apart from this, the road has also been dug up for a stretch of 20 meters and water from the drains are overflowing.
