New Delhi: Late BJP leader, Pramod Mahajan's son, Rahul Mahajan's drug trial is expected to begin on Wednesday.
Additional Sessions Judge S N Gupta, after framing charges against Rahul Mahajan had decided to commence the trial on January 10.
A local court hearing the drugs case against Rahul, had cleared him of the charges of drug trafficking. He now faces charges of possessing contraband substance for consumption.
The prosecution had alleged that Rahul alongwith his father's secretary Bibek Moitra consumed an unspecified quantity of cocktail of drugs on June 1, 2006 at late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's 7 Safdarjung Road Residence in New Delhi.
The drinks and drugs consumed during the party led to the death of Bibek Moitra, and Rahul being admitted to the Apollo Hospital.
Rahul was subsequently booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Acts relating to destruction of evidence.
The police filed chargesheet in this case on August 4, 2006. A second person, Sahil Zaroo was charged under section 419 of the Indian Penal Code.
Four more people have been charged for possession of illegal drugs along with Rahul and Sahil, including Harish Sharma - a close aide of Pramod Mahajan.
