Moscow/Kiev: Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko on Saturday discussed ways to make the new ceasefire in eastern Ukraine durable.
The two leaders noted that the ceasefire protocol reached Friday in the Belarusian capital of Minsk "was generally being observed", Xinhua reported citing a statement from Poroshenko's office.
The Kremlin in a statement said both sides "expressed their satisfaction with how the ceasefire is being observed in general by the parties involved in the conflict".
Representatives of Ukraine's government and pro-Russian insurgent leadership signed a ceasefire deal Friday in Minsk.
The meeting was also attended by emissaries from Russia and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
The agreement was expected to pave the way for a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis and an end to the bloodshed in eastern Ukraine, which has claimed at least 2,600 lives since March.
