CHENNAI: MDMK general secretary Vaiko has warned the Central Government that it would face strong opposition from the people if it failed to retract the recent hike in the price of petroleum products.
Leading a protest organised by his party in Chennai on Tuesday, Vaiko noted that the UPA Government had increased the price of petroleum products 10 times during this regime with the idea that people would forget the issue after holding a token protest.The Government should understand that unemployment and price rise were two issues that could cause a revolution against the State, he said giving the recent uprising in Egypt as a classic example in contemporary world politics.

Vaiko blamed the Indian government for expressing helplessness on the issue by blaming a rise in the price of oil in the international market as the cause for the fuel price hike. "Though the price of oil came down recently in the international market, the government made no efforts to reduce the price of petroleum products," he said.

The Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Association also held a protest on Tuesday demanding the Centre rollback the fuel price hike.
