Presidential inauguration: Day in the diary of Obama
Vice president-elect Biden will be sworn in before Prez-elect Obama.

New Delhi: It is January 20th and an extremely busy day for president-elect Barack Obama. United States has braced itself for the inauguration of the 44th US President, a Black American who is set to take over as the country battles the worst recession in the last 70 years.

The ceremonies kick off at around 9:30pm (IST) when Obama departs the White House en route to Capitol hill.

In less than half an hour, about 9:55pm, President Bush will be called on to the stage for the formal handover of the presidency.

Within five minutes, at 10 pm India time, president-elect Barack Obama will be called on stage, and the inauguration ceremony will begin.

Vice president-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in at 10 pm India time.

In another half-hour, at 10:30pm India time, president-elect Obama will take oath as the 44th President of USA, to the strains of Hail to the chief.

He will then deliver his inaugural address: Renewing America's promise.
