KOCHI: In an effort to curb petty crimes, the Kochi police on Sunday carried out surprise checking across the city. As part of the about two-hour drive, the police carried out vehicle checking in different parts of the city.“Recently, some petty thefts, robberies and similar incidents were reported from some parts of the city. We also took into custody some of those involved in these crimes. There were also incidents of ganja and drug sale. It’s in view of these incidents that we carried out the surprise checking,” said Kochi City Police Deputy Commissioner T Gopalakrishna Pillai.The police carried out the checking of vehicle documents at Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road, High Court Junction, in front of CMFRI and MG Road from around 11 am. The shadow wing of the city police had recently arrested some people with drug ampoules from the city. Last week, they arrested one person from Kalamassery. Similarly, in yet another major narcotics haul, the Shadow Police team along with the Mulavukad police arrested a drug dealer three weeks ago.Based on a tip-off received by City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar, the Shadow Police team seized 500 ampoules recently, following which they had strengthened surveillance in the city.
