CHENNAI: Police are drawing a list of habitual housebreak offenders in an effort to nab the killer of a 52-year-old woman bank employee at Kamdar Nagar in Mahalingapuram on Monday.R Seethalakshmi alias Aruna was strangled to death in the bedroom of her house by an intruder, who decamped with 22 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The Nungambakkam police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) and formed three special teams to crack the case.According to the victim’s sister R Prabhavati (54), who was a witness to the murder, the intruder entered the house after removing a plywood panel covering the air-conditioning vent. The sources said police showed her an album containing photographs of habitual offenders and a portrait of the killer was made with the descriptions provided by her.Initially, police suspected Esu Udaiyan, a native of Kanyakumari, who has several cases against him since his modus operandi resembled that of the bank employee’s killer. But he was ruled out because he was still serving his sentence in jail. However, the activities of his associates were being probed, sources said.Joint commissioner (East) S N Seshasai said the killer was a professional offender involved in housebreak offences. A list of housebreak offenders were being prepared in the case, he added.
