HYDERABAD: Besides setting a target of generating 6000 Mega Watts of additional power in the next four years, APTransco has planned to set up a 765 KV substation near Hyderabad, for the first time in AP, to provide quality and reliable power to Hyderabad by 2015.Speaking to media persons here on Friday, APTransco chairman and MD Ajay Jain said talks were already going on with the Power Grid Corporation of India to set up a 765 KV substation near Hyderabad. Another 765 KV substation would be set up in Prakasam district to evacuate power from Vodarevu 4000 MW power project of APGenco. As of now, the demand for power in Hyderabad has reached 1800 MW and there is scope for further increase in demand in future.Several gas-based power projects are also coming up at Vemagiri in East Godavari district. GVK, GMR and other companies are setting up the power plants. Power generated by the plants will be diverted to Hyderabad via Khammam. “Efforts are being made that the state realises the set targets in order to have economic development.Quantity, quality and competitive pricing are most important in power sector. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is giving top priority to power sector in order to promote agriculture and industrial sectors which are backbone of the economy,” he said.While stating that the peak demand was expected to reach 17000 MW by 2015, the Transco CMD said steps were taken to set up 170 EHT (Extra High Tension) substations across the state at a cost of `6,000 crore during the next four years. The four AP Discoms have planned to set up 1,400 33 KV substations along with associated lines and DTRs with an outlay of Rs 8,000 crore in the next four years.Already plans are afoot to commission 52 EHT substations this fiscal.
