New Delhi: Justice Sarosh Homi Kapadia will take over as the new Chief Justice of India on Wednesday. Justice Kapadia is the the senior most judge of the Supreme Court and will take the place of KG Balakrishnan who retired as the CJI on Tuesday.
He says the only asset he possesses is integrity and hoped to fulfill the Constitutional obligations to achieve the goal of "inclusive growth."
"I come from a poor family. I started my career as a class IV employee and the only asset I possess is integrity", Justice Kapadia said in a letter written to former Supreme Court judge VR Krishna Iyer on May 3.
The 62-year-old Kapadia will be the 38th CJI of India since Independence. He is renowned for his expertise in matters of taxation, banking, industrial, and labour laws.
The new CJI is also said to be a finance wizard. He has been the judge of the Bombay High Court. He was also the Chief Justice of Uttaranchal High Court.
