NAMAKKAL/ TIRUPUR: A 45-year old man was killed when two bikes collided head-on while two others sustained injuries here, on Saturday.The police said, A Palani, a resident of Varayurkompai, died on the spot at Naraikinaru branch road on the Mullukurichy-Mettala high road. The bike which he was riding collided head-on with another that came from the opposite direction. C Murugesan and his friend V Muthu who were injured were admitted in a private hospital.The Ayilpatti police registered a case and are conducting further investigations.Shop Owner KilledMeanwhile, in another mishap in Thiruchengode, a shop owner was killed when a van hit him, on Saturday.P Gopalakrishnan, a resident of Vinayagapuram in Thiruchengode was going to Erode from Thiruchengode when the van came from the opposite side and hit him.The accident took place near KSR College, police said on Sunday. Gopalakrishnan died on the way to the hospital. Thiruchengode rural police registered a case and are holding further investigations into the incident.29 Sovereigns RobbedA woman was robbed of 29 sovereigns of gold jewellery aboard a bus, near Tirupur on Saturday. According to sources, Deivanai (40), of Vignesh Nagar, Kangeyampalayam in Sulur Aero, and wife of Aiyappan, boarded a TNSTC bus from Devakottai and were headed home. They were reportedly carrying 29 sovereigns of gold jewellery with them in a bag. However, when they checked the bag after reaching home, the jewellery was missing. A complaint was registered with the Palladam police and further investigation is on.`1.5 lakh StolenAs much as `1.5 lakh was stolen from a man, on Saturday. According to the police, Karmegam (21) of  Karapalayam in Thottampatti, came to Tirupur on motorcycle for some business transaction. He allegedly kept `1.5 lakh in the side box of the bike. When he pulled over near the Old Bus Stand, to attend a phone call some persons allegedly broke open the box and fled with the cash.
