New Delhi: Amidst global mourning for Steve Jobs, Calfornia governor has declared October 16 as 'Steve Jobs day' in the southern US state. In his life and work, Steve Jobs embodied the California dream,” said Jerry Brown, governor, California, in a statement. “To call him influential would be an understatement… His innovations transformed an industry, and the products he conceived and shepherded to market have changed the way the entire world communicates,” he added.

Jobs was a “uniquely Californian visionary. He epitomised the spirit of a state that an eager world watches to see what will come next,” said Brown in his proclamation.

Apple is holding a memorial service for Steve Jobs on Sunday at Stanford University. Invitations have gone out to Silicon Valley luminaries and other people close to Jobs, The Wall Street Journal reported. Apple said the evening event is private and that even press would not be permitted unless they were on the guest list.

Steve Jobs, the visionary, died on October 5 at the age of 56 after a years-long battle with cancer.
