KOCHI: The relay hunger strike by the nurses’ union at the Lakeshore Hospital entered its second day on Tuesday. Various political parties and social organisations, under the banner of the Janakeeya Samara Sahaya Samithi, pledged support for the strike. On Tuesday, Shasthra Sahithya Parishad and the Girls Islamic Organisation of India extended support to the agitation.The United Nurses Association has said that the strike will continue until the nurses who had been dismissed are re-recruited.Meanwhile, the hospital management said in a press statement that no terms set in the agreement signed on February 12 between the nurses and the management, under the mediation of Labour Minister Shibu Baby John, have been violated. According to the management, the strike was aimed at tarnishing the hospital’s reputation. The hospital authorities added that 62 nurses had already resigned from the UNA after the increase in the wages.
