KOCHI: In the wake of the recent study report regarding women being unsafe in the city, the Corporation has put the security concerns on top of the priority list.As the report highlights widespread darkness in the public spaces at night due to defunct streetlights, the civic body has taken quick measures to check the situation and fix the lights.Going hi-tech, the Corporation has launched a website to track and monitor the streetlights in need of maintenance. Those wishing to file complaints against defunct streetlights can now submit it by logging to www.anuassociates.com.“We have received many complaints regarding non-functional lights in major parts of the city. In order to resolve the issues, the contractor who has been entrusted with the maintenance of streetlights is maintaining a website too,” said K J Sohan, chairman, Kochi Corporation Health Standing Committee. One can file complaints on the website through a separate tab called ‘Add new complaints’ on the top right side of the website. “Apart from adding new complaints, one can also follow the status of the grievances and complaints filed earlier. The complaints will be resolved within a day’s time,” he added. The ‘status’ section of the website shows the name of the complainant, date when the complaint was filed and the time taken for the rectification. After logging into the website, the user can select the zone that covers the streetlight to be fixed. The website has separate sections for Edappally, Vyttila and Centre zones. The Corporation authorities are also planning to convert all the streetlights in the city into energy efficient Light Emitting Diode (LEDs). This will offer better lighting system and will have a life span of 10 years as compared to the two years for other streetlights.
