HYDERABAD: The renting of a residential building for commercial purpose in the Prashashan Nagar quarters by an IPS officer has triggered a controversy.According to sources, neighbours comprising both IAS and IPS officers objected to the leasing of a certain portion of the building for commercial purposes. The senior IPS officer in question leased the portion to an IT company.Coming to know about this, other IPS and IAS officers residing there lodged a complaint with the GHMC to take action. Based on the complaint, GHMC slapped notices and asked the tenant not to start any commercial activity. However, the tenant reportedly carried on his business because the owner assured him not to worry about the GHMC. The GHMC officials also warned the tenant that if he continues with his activity, they would seal the building. But the tenant who allegedly has the support of some ministers is carrying out the commercial activity.Officials said the state government had allotted plots for IAS and IPS officers in the area for construction of residential houses only and not for commercial purposes. When the tenant went to meet GHMC officials, they reportedly told him to get an order from the government on change of land use.
