New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said had he been an athlete he would have definitely gone to the CWG.

Auckland: New Zealand on Friday confirmed their participation in the October 3-14 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. New Zealand Olympic Committee President Mike Stanley told a press conference in Auckland that they would send their team for the Games following a meeting of the NZOC board on Friday afternoon.

The athletes will arrive in New Delhi to take part in the Games on Saturday.

Earlier, the country's Prime Minister John Key said had he been an athlete he would have definitely gone to the Delhi Commonwealth Games despite the messy build-up to the event.

"Yeah, if I could pick my own sport, yeah I would go," he told 'New Zealand Press Association' on Friday.

Key also said it was unlikely that New Zealand would pull out on its own.

"If we are likely to not send our team then it'll be because a large number of like-minded countries form the same view," he said.

"It's heart-breaking for them (the athletes) if they can't go," he added.
