New Delhi: CPI-M has issued a statement on the office of profit issue. They have asked for a clarification on what defines an office of profit.
CPI-M said that the post of the Chairperson of the National Advisory Council is not an office of profit.
They also added that the demands for the resignation of the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Somnath Chatterjee are baseless.
According to the CPI-M, Chatterjee's position as the chairman of the Sriniketan-Shantineketan Development Authority cannot be termed as an office of profit.
On Thursday, the Left parties were completely taken by surprise following Sonia Gandhi’s political bombshell.
The Left leaders immediately huddled into a meeting and decided that their MPs will not resign.
CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury said that the MPs would rather face disqualification than resign.
Meanwhile, CPI-M has called for a speedy resolution of the matter.
