Mumbai flight makes emergency landing
Airbus-320 was getting ready for take-off from Bhubaneswar when a bird got sucked into one of the engines.

Bhubaneswar: More than 100 passengers had a narrow escape when a Mumbai-bound Indian aircraft suffered a bird hit while taking off from the Biju Patnaik airport on Saturday afternoon.

Airbus-320 had 114 passengers on board, and was speeding down the runway when the bird was sucked into one of its engines, officials said.

The pilots applied the brakes suddenly, bringing the aircraft to a halt and deflating four tyres.

The plane then taxied to a bay near the terminal building and the passengers quickly disembarked.

"We are trying to accommodate passengers in the Delhi-Bhubaneswar flight," the Airport Manager, P C Sahu said.

Passengers who had connecting international flights were being given preference, he added.

The other passengers were being put up in hotels till their flight was ready to take off.

"It was an awesome experience when the speeding aircraft suddenly applied the brake. But the passengers were not hurt," one of the passengers, Kartikeya Mishra said.
