BANGALORE: Here is some good news for car owners. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is planning to construct more multi-level car parkings across the city to accommodate more vehicles. The Palike is considering the construction of a multi-level parking system in areas which have high density of vehicular movement on a public-private partnership model. According to Raja Simha, technical advisor to the BBMP Commissioner, the Palike has identified at least 16 locations in the city that require additional parking space. Each location can accommodate 120-500 cars . “We have invited tenders and they will be placed at the next council for approval,” he said.Meanwhile, a senior BBMP official said that this will not cost BBMP as it can get additional revenue by selling space for advertisement hoardings. The official said that work is expected to commence by the end of September. Not just this, BBMP is also considering including parking space at their markets. “We are doing a face-lift that includes demolition of old markets, construction of multi-storey complexes and introducing facilities at the cellar for vehicle parking. The State Government had given `40 crore under the 13th finance commission for the same. A detail project report is being prepared for the construction of multi-level parking,” the official said.
