To own a DSLR camera is a dream for any aspiring and amateur photographers. And often these photography enthusiasts after checking out the camera in showrooms, return home sad faced because of its high price. But not anymore, the camera manufacturing mavericks Nikon has announced the launch of full-frame Nikon D600 which is cheaper and packs many of its higher version DSLR camera’s features. The latest addition is smallest and lightest of Nikon’s FX-format D-SLR with non-compromised image quality.

It has a CMOS image sensor with 24.3-million effective pixels and an Expeed 3 image-processing engine that offers superior definition with a range of advanced features. The company claims that the Expeed 3 chip will provide 20 times faster processing than one gets from the D700. Another highlight is a 3.2-inch LCD monitor with wide angle viewing and which is both dust & water-resistant. The new camera has a weather-sealed magnesium alloy build and 39 point AF system, 9 of which are cross type, compatible with lenses and teleconverters all the way up to f/8.

The metering on the Nikon D600 is handled by a 2,016-pixel RGB sensor, which enables scene recognition and full-time face detection even when shooting using the viewfinder.

The camera’s body measures approximately 141.0 × 113.0 × 82.0mm (W x H x D) and weighs approximately 760 grams which is 15 per cent lighter than the D800. The D600 supports ISO 100 to ISO 6400 to capture beautiful images with very little noise and rich tones. The range of sensitivities can also be expanded to the equivalent of ISO 50 (Lo 1) or up to ISO 25600 equivalent (Hi 2).

Nikon has based the D600’s video technology on the D800’s and is capable of recording 1080p footage at 24, 25 or 30p, and the maximum clip length is 29 minutes 59 seconds. Full HD movie recording can be made in both FX- or DX-based formats too. It is also equipped with a high-magnification optical viewfinder that supports an approximate 100 percent frame coverage in FX format and a magnification of approximately 0.7x.

Another feature is that the camera uses dual SD memory card slots for smoother still-image and movie recording. Along with it, the D600 is also equipped with a headphone jack.
