HYDERABAD: In the wake of protests over the metro rail works, minister for municipal administration and urban development M Maheedhar Reddy on Friday assured the locals that the Hyderabad Metro Rail will go ahead with the construction work only after completion of rehabilitation works. Addressing a press conference after inspecting the progress of metro rail works here, he expressed confidence that the L&T would stick to the deadline and complete the project on time.In the last two weeks, the locals took to the streets in Chaderghat area opposing the metro rail works as three schools fall in its route and are likely to be demolished. The minister was accompanied by NVS Reddy, managing director, HMR; VB Gadgil, chief and managing director, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd.NVS Reddy confirmed that the works of the world's largest metro rail project working on a publicprivate partnership model was going at a brisk pace.The project would create 50,000 jobs during the construction period and about 2 lakh jobs after completion. There will be seven Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) stations intersecting MMTS stations apart from bus stations, making it easy for commuters to shift between modes of transport. The MRTS would have a capacity of 1,000 passengers in a 3 coach train.
