CHENNAI: Taking modern agricultural techniques to the doorsteps of farmers to usher in a second green revolution in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday announced that a Farmers’ Mega Festival would be conducted in all 16,564 revenue villages in the State, starting April 13, Tamil New Year’s day.According to the CM’s announcement in the State Assembly, the festival is intended to act as a platform to spread awareness among farmers, through a fair-like atmosphere in which information on modern techniques in agriculture will be disseminated to the land-tillers through art forms with mass appeal, like street plays, dramas, folk songs and dances.A comprehensive guide on latest farming techniques and agricultural inputs will also be provided. Agriculture department officials will also brief farmers on integrated farming technology, including selection of profitable crops suitable for every village, and specific aspects like cattle rearing, mulberry cultivation, fish rearing etc. What’s more, the officials, along with distributors of agricultural inputs, will spend a day in each of the villages and work out solutions for farmers’ problems.
