ALAPPUZHA: An inspection of merchant vessel Prabhu Daya by a team of officials has found evidence of its collision with the fishing boat off Alappuzha resulting in the death of five fishermen. The inspection was conducted by a team led by Alappuzha DySP K Maheshkumar, which included Mercantile Marine Department officials (MMD), on Tuesday. “The team found scratch marks in front of the ship’’ the DySP said. “The ship is anchored about five nautical miles off Chennai coast. The officials reached the ship in a boat at noon. We returned at 6 pm after the inspection,’’ Maheshkumar said.The police team from Alappuzha reached Chennai to inspect the boat on Monday evening. CI S Ajaynath, forensic expert A M Sanoj and SI Mohan were also in the team.
