Maoists kidnap, kill policeman

NUAPADA : After several abduction dramas over the few months, Maoists on Tuesday sent a chilling reminder. An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police, Kruparam Majhi was kidnapped in the morning in the Sunabeda wildlife sanctuary in Nuapada district bordering Chhattisgarh. Hours later his bullet-riddled body was found. Majhi (42) was posted at Dharambandha police outpost and belonged to Beltukuri village in the same district. This is for the first time that the police faced a body-blow ever since the Maoists surfaced in the area way back in 2008.Majhi along with a constable was escorting a water tanker fitted to a tractor to a CRPF camp at Godhus, some 8 km from Dharambandha as pillion on a mobike. About 500 m from Bharuamunda, located inside the sanctuary, suddenly the Maoists opened fire taking them by surprise. Even as they tried to reverse and escape, the mobike fell down and before he could react, the man driving the mobike managed to flee with the mobike leaving the ASI and the tractor driver on the spot.
