BANGALORE: A 26-year-old engineer allegedly smothered his wife to death and committed suicide along with his father on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday. The incident took place at Kenchenahalli in Kanakapura under Ramanagaram district. Vinay Kumar, the accused, was married to Anusha (22), a native of Ramohalli, a year ago. According to the police, Anusha’s neighbours found the main door of the house open on Wednesday morning and called her. When there was no response, they entered inside and found Anusha lying dead in the bedroom. They informed the police. Her parents who rushed to the spot, alleged that Kumar was harassing their daughter and lodged a case of dowry death against him. “Soon after the incident, Kumar, fearing future consequences fled, keeping his mobile phone switched off. Within a couple of hours, it was found that Kumar and his father Ramesh (59) had committed suicide by hanging to a tree at Kenchanahalli in Kanakapura,” the K R Pura police said.The Sathanur police who have registered a case, said that Kumar met his father in their native V S Doddi in Kanakapura and confessed of killing his wife. “Afraid of being arrested, the duo might have committed suicide. Also, a suicide note was recovered written by Kumar. It states he killed his wife over marital discord,” the police added.A post-mortem on Anusha’s body was conducted at Bowring hospital mortuary.
