KOLLAM: Criticising Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for terming the FIR in the case of shooting of two fishermen as perfect, BJP state president V Muraleedharan alleged that the Chief Minister was trying to save the guilty.Inaugurating a siege to the Neendakara Bridge along the NH47 here in protest against the killing of the fishermen, he said that the FIR stated that the incident happened at 33 nautical miles off the coast, while the incident occurred only 12 nautical miles off the Ambalappuzha coast and within the territorial waters of India. It should be suspected that the FIR was a conscious attempt to save the guilty.Raising doubts about the Congress-led State and Central Governments stand in the case, he said that the Congress party’s pro-Italian stand was evident as they had the dubious distinction allowing the Italian arms merchant Ottavio Quattrocchi to go scot free in the Bofors scam.Muraleedharan said that the Italian Marines were enjoying a VIP treatment in police custody.He said that proceedings in the court were not moving in favour of the victims’ families.
