VELLORE: Maha Shivarathiri is being celebrated on Monday in Shiva Temples across Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts. This day is considered sacred as Lord Shiva is believed to visit places of worship in different forms and bless the devotees, who usually fast on this occasion. Also, temples across the districts are gearing up to organise special poojas, yagnas and other programmes.The Isha Yoga Center at Gudiayattam is organising sath sang, gurupooja, meditation, discourses and music programmes on Monday. A group of six temples on the Palar riverbed near Wallajah, Sage Athri Temple at Pudupadi, Vashist Temple at Veppur, Valmiki Temple at Garai, Gowthama Ishwar Temple at Vannivedu, Agastheeswar Temple at Vannivedu, Bhoomi Eswar Temple and Ananda Arthaeswar at Kudimallur have organised special poojas. The Jalakanteeswar Temple in Vellore and the Arunachalaeswar temple in Tiruvannamalai will also have a long programme on Monday.The 13 Joythirlingam Temple at Battoor near Ambur will hold special yagnas and poojas on Monday to attract a large gathering of devotees.
