Chennai: Tamil Nadu state women's commission chairperson has called the Madras High Court judgement granting bail to rape convict on condition he mediates with victim as an odd and new order, but a good move.

Visalakshi Nedunchezian says reconciliation and mediation depends on the victim and her state of mind. She however says the rape convict should not be allowed to get away.

Speaking to media she said “ The HC judgement is an odd one and a new one where he has given a chance to convict for reconciliation and mediation with victim. This is a good move I can say. But convict should not be allowed to get away. No guarantee that he will live with her. It depends on state of mind of girl. Several years have passed by. What is nature of mind. Everything depends on what she says. The convict should not be given bail if reconciliation occurs”.

Commenting on the victim saying that she doesn't want to mediate, she said “if that is the case, well and good. He should be punished”.
