Bhopal: A senior minister from the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government has called Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse a ‘great personality’.
The minister’s response came after the Hindu Mahasabha installed a statue of Godse in their Gwalior office last week.
Minister for General Administration Department Lal Singh Arya told News18 that he was not aware of installation of Godse’s statue in Gwalior and came to know about the issue through media reports.
“As per the norms, if anyone installs statue of any great personality or does anything regarding them, one should seek permission from administration,” he said.
Saying that he was not sure whether the organisation sought any administrative permission, Arya allied fears that Godse statue could lead to law and order situation in MP.
Congress state president Arun Yadav criticised the BJP, saying that on one hand, it is glorifying queen Padmavati while on the other, it installed a statue of Mahatma Gandhi’s murderer. “The real face of RSS is before everyone,” he said.
Gwalior district administration on Tuesday had removed Godse statue from Hindu Mahasabha office after offering them one hour ultimatum.
