A girl who was allegedly burnt alive by her molester’s son in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district has tragically passed away. The incident, which left the girl with 30 percent burns, has sparked outrage and grief across the state.
The incident occurred on October 12, when the police received a report of a girl being set ablaze in the Kotwali police station area in Khandwa. After they rushed to the spot, the police immediately took the victim to the district hospital in Khandwa. She was later transferred to MY Hospital in Indore for specialized treatment, where the extent of her burns, covering 30 percent of her body, was determined.
This tragic event followed a previous complaint filed by the deceased on October 7, alleging molestation against a man named Mangilal. Acting on her complaint, the police arrested Mangilal, who was subsequently released on bail on October 8.
Upon his release, Mangilal and his family had allegedly subjected the victim and her family to threats and intimidation. On October 12, a dispute erupted between the victim and Mangilal’s son, Arjun. The altercation escalated to a horrifying point when Arjun allegedly doused the girl in petrol and set her on fire, leaving onlookers stunned and horrified.
While hospitalized in Khandwa, the victim provided a statement to the police, identifying her attacker as Arjun, the son of her alleged molester, Mangilal. She accused Arjun of setting her ablaze.
According to the police, the alleged motive behind this heinous act was to silence the victim and seek revenge for the molestation accusation against Mangilal.
The victim’s grieving family has demanded a thorough post-mortem examination by a panel of doctors and the harshest possible punishment for those responsible for the incident.
Mangilal, who was previously granted bail, is now facing renewed scrutiny, while his son Arjun remains in custody.
Law enforcement officials have assured the public that they are taking appropriate action and are considering additional charges against the accused.
The opposition Congress party has condemned the incident and criticized the BJP-run state government’s response. State Congress president Jitu Patwari took to social media to express his condemnation of the incident and criticize the government’s response.
“The molested victim, who was burned after petrol was poured on her during Dussehra on October 12 in Khandwa, died in Indore late Thursday night. @DrMohanYadav51 ji, this is not normal; it is murder by the government! Your police neither acted in time nor provided security to the victim, which is why the accused dared to commit this crime. After the complaint, petrol was poured on the victim, and she was set on fire. This is the height of jungle raj! Resign from the post of Home Minister immediately!” Patwari wrote on X.
