CHENNAI: A recent survey by Manpower group indicates that Indian employers are becoming less confident about hiring. The fourth-quarter employment outlook reflects the slowest pace in hiring since Q1 in 2010. “Employers in all seven industry sectors and all four regions of India report positive hiring plans for the next three months,” the survey states. However, Net Employment Outlooks are down in all the seven industry sectors compared to the previous quarter. Job seekers in the services sector and manufacturing sector can look forward to the brightest hiring prospects in the next three months, while the country’s weakest – yet positive – hiring plans are reported by employers in the public administration and education sectors. Experts explain by saying that such a cautious move can be because of the uncertainties in the global market, and therefore, no complete commitment to the hiring process.  Employers in the Services Sector report the most robust hiring plans this quarter. The sector’s Outlook declines by 10 percentage points when compared to the previous quarter and is six percentage points weaker year-over-year. Employers in the Manufacturing Sector (+32%) report a 12 percentage point decline in Net Employment Outlook over last quarter and one percentage point over the corresponding quarter last year. Employers in the Transport and Utilities sector (+31%) report improvements of three percentage points in comparison to the previous year, while reporting a decline of 11 points over the last quarter. Hiring intentions in the Public Admin/ Education sector (+16%) trail all other industry sectors. The survey results show a 17 percentage point decline quarter-over-quarter and a decline of 32 percentage points year-over-year.  It must be noted that though there is a positive upswing in the hiring plans for the next three months, there is a marginal decline in the Net Employment Outlooks decline in all of the seven industry sectors when compared to the previous quarter. The study was conducted by the Manpower group earlier this month, polling over 65,000 employers in 41 countries and territories. The next Manpower Employment Outlook Survey will be released on 13 December 2011 to report hiring expectations for the first quarter of 2012.
