"I feel I have a better car this year, so I think we should be more competitive than we were last year," the Mercedes driver said.

After his unexpected switch to Mercedes this year, 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton hinted that Mercedes have a better car than his former team McLaren, which offers him a chance to be more competitive.

Hamilton, who is yet to claim the top position this season, had won four races with McLaren in 2012. However, he insisted that in the Mercedes car he is more closer to win. "I feel like I have a better car this year, so I think we should be more competitive than we were last year. It is definitely closer to being able to win than what I have had for a couple of years, so I am looking forward to seeing what the car can do.

"I think the car will go really well here. I feel good. I'll be on the simulator, so I get to really focus on trying to nail the set-up. We've got into a good position so far and if we can get into an even better one, that would be fantastic," he told the Daily Star ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The 28-year-old Hamilton had won 21 races, including the 2008 championship, in six seasons with McLaren. Meanwhile, in his debut season with Mercedes this year, he has so far managed three third-place finishes. His team-mate at Mercedes, Nico Rosberg, earned the team its lone win yet this year in Monaco.
