TIRUNELVELI: The Centre’s dirty tricks department that launched a vituperative attack against Team Anna to discredit it, has a new target — the anti-Koodankulam nuclear plant agitators. The confirmation came from none other than the PMO’s pointsman on the issue, minister V Narayanasamy, here on Saturday.“The demonstrators are ferrying people in lorries for the agitations... The Centre is contemplating a probe on how these agitations are funded and track the money used for the purpose,” the Union minister of State told reporters. That was exactly what the Centre did to dig up dirt on Team Anna, which led to a spate of controversies about Prashant Bhushan’s land deals in Noida, Arvind Kejriwal’s tax dues and Kiran Bedi’s attempt to divert air travel funds.Narayanasamy, who indirectly hit out at the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), which is spearheading the protest, said a false propaganda was being spread against the project. “The demonstrators are saying that the plant will affect the foetus in a mother’s womb and the waste from the plant will destroy the livelihood of local people. These are false,” he said. Due to the struggle, normalcy in the area has been affected, he said, adding, “a few people are instigating the demonstrators.” There are around 1,000 scientists and technicians living with their families nearby. “If the plant is not safe, will they be ready to reside with their families?” he asked.
