Puducherry: Asserting that the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) had full safety measures and four-tier security, Union Minister of State in the PMO, V Narayanasamy, on Tuesday said the Plant would soon begin functioning with Tamil Nadu government's cooperation.
"The Plant will go on stream as planned soon with the cooperation of the State government," Narayanasamy told reporters in Puducherry.
Adding that it was a "pity" that those agitating against the Plant were spreading "baseless and wrong" information about the project among the local population, the minister said such campaigns were only aimed at misleading the people.
Though about 156 cases had been registered against the agitators, "no one has been arrested and detained in prison," Narayanasamy said.
Registration of cases should be followed up with arrest and detention in prison, he added.
The KNPP was necessary to meet the power requirements of all sections of people in Tamil Nadu, Narayanasamy said.
