THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The students in Pappanamcode UPS had big dreams. That’s why they went in for paddy cultivation in their school and did not limit themselves to vegetable farming. Now the school is all set to reap the harvest this month. The sight of the rich green paddy field, swaying in the wind, has been uploaded on YouTube by the school authorities. Type krishi.ppd to watch it. The Kalady Government UPS did not exist even for the locals here, until a group of children came up with a film. Since then, it has been churning out creative products, short films, poetry collections or individual achievements, making people sit up and take notice. The little boys and girls belonging to Chalai UPS got out of their schools visiting the premises searching for local history. They even brought out a book on their findings. The Heritage clubs, Nature clubs and Science clubs in schools have been seeing active participation of children of all ages, eager to earn goodwill for the school. Ask the district officers of SSA and they would give you a long list of published works belonging to children - poems, short stories or paintings. Then there are the children who love to act, are dreaming of making it big on the celluloid at the age of seven or eight. The kids taking to computers know how to create magic with them, the numerous animation movies by kids bear testimony to this. This column would prove too short for the long list of achievements school children in the city can claim. We cut it short to say that the children themselves are good textbooks even adults can learn from.
