KFC worm incident shocks foodies in Thiruvananthapuram
The closure of the Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet in the city after finding worms in a chicken delicacy has now raised questions on the blind trust that the customers had on it.

The closure of the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet in the city after finding worms in a chicken delicacy has come as a shocking news for many, raising questions on the trust it had among the customers.

Ever since the outlet was opened in the city, many city residents had opted it as a preferred food joint. “The news was unbelievable until watching the visuals on television channels. It is the trust we had on the firm that has been marred by the incident. We used to frequent the outlet in the weekends and preferred it for having discussions and get-togethers,” said P V Unnikrishnan, who works with a private FM radio firm in the city.

Some others said that this incident was a testimony to the fact that people in the city are yet to learn from the closure of several food outlets after finding stale food recently. “This shows that people are ready to take anything served at the food outlets. The trust has come under scanner. When people are spending so much money on the delicacies served here, this kind of incidents should not have happened,” said Bijoy B S, working with a software firm at Technopark.

A team of volunteers had recently taken out a ‘Scream Out’ protest in front of the KFC outlet against allegedly serving carcinogenic food there. “Though we protested as part of a campaign against serving carcinogenic food there, an incident of this kind was never expected as the place witnesses such a rush of customers. This is happening as people are blindly aping western culture. Even those who had criticised our campaign have now changed their opinion after this incident,” said Sachin S, a college student and one of the organisers of ‘Scream Out.’

Though such an incident has occurred, many people are not blaming the global giant. “The problem might have occurred with the way the outlet in the city is managed, for which the entire chain cannot be blamed,” added Unnikrishnan.

Bijoy too said that he never had any bad experience earlier from other KFC outlets. People are also posting their comments online on Facebook regarding the incident.
