THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Complaints have been raised about copying questions from a guide for the examination conducted by the PSC for the posts of Higher Secondary School Teacher (Zoology), reserved for SCs/STs.On November 3 last year the examinations were held for the posts of higher secondary school teacher (senior) zoology (category no.118/09) and higher secondary school teacher (junior) zoology (category no.232/09). The senior post had three vacancies and junior post had four.It has been found that many questions for the exam were copied from a guide, published by Arihant Publications (I) Pvt Ltd, Meerut.Vinod R of Attingal, a candidate who had appeared for the exam, told Express that those who prepared the question papers had not even changed the options given in the guide.“From page 202 of the guide, question no.s 117 and 118 were selected for the exam as the 75th and 76th questions, respectively, without even changing the options given as answers,” Vinod said.“See the 78th question. In India, the lion-tailed macaque is found only in: (A) Bandhipur Biosphere Reserve (B) On the rough endoplasmic reticulum (c) Guindy National Park (d) Western Ghats. The provisional answer key, published by the PSC, had given Eastern Ghats as the right answer as given in the guide, whereas the right answer is Western Ghats,” he said.“From page no.s 202 and 203 of the guide, four questions were lifted without making any change in the options,” Vinod said.PSC Chairman Dr K S Radhakrishnan told Express that there were specific directives to prepare questions based on authentic text books. However, he said many of the guide books were prepared using authentic textbooks and there would be chances for having the same questions both in the guide as well as in texts.“See, H2O is the formula for water. It cannot go wrong even if it is mentioned in a guide book. It is the same case with mathematical questions,” he quipped. However, he pointed out that when it was found that over 50 questions lifted from a guide figured in a PSC question paper, the exam was canceled. When pointed out at a similar issue in the HSST post exam, he said it was humane to commit errors.“If we find some questions are erroneous, they will be avoided from the total number of questions during evaluation,” he said.
